Hail Damage Repair in Seal Beach

Hail leaves bruised shingles, cracked tile and dented metal that are easy to miss from the ground. The same few people on our crew inspect, photograph and repair your roof, so what we find is exactly what gets fixed.

What hail does to a roof, and why it shows up later

Hailstones strike in a scattered pattern. On asphalt shingles, each hit knocks granules loose and can fracture the fiberglass mat underneath, leaving a soft, dark bruise. The shingle still sheds water today. With its granules gone, though, sunlight breaks down the exposed asphalt, and that spot can crack open within a few seasons. On clay and concrete tile, hail chips corners and cracks pieces through, which lets rain reach the underlayment below.

Whether you need a repair or more depends on how many strikes there are and where they landed. A handful of damaged shingles or tiles is a repair. Mat fractures spread across several slopes usually point toward roof replacement. We tell you which one your roof needs and show you the photos that explain why.

We keep a small crew on every hail job. The person who documents the damage is on the roof when it gets fixed, so nothing is lost between the inspection and the repair. We are a licensed roofing contractor, CSLB 1092407 (C-39), and we are insured.

What our hail damage repair covers

Slope-by-slope inspection
We walk each slope and chalk-mark strikes inside a test square. We also check soft metals like vent caps, ridge vents and flashing, because dents there show the hailstone size and the direction the storm came from.
Dated photo record
You get close-up and wide photos of every damaged area. You and your adjuster see the same evidence we saw.
Shingle replacement
Damaged shingles come out with their nails, and matched shingles go in and are hand-sealed to the course above. If your color or profile has been discontinued, we tell you before any work starts and go over the options.
Tile and underlayment repair
Cracked clay or concrete tiles are replaced. Where a strike broke through, we lift the surrounding tile and check the underlayment for tears, then patch it before setting new tile.
Roof metal and gutters
We replace crushed vent caps and bent drip edge, and we repair dented gutters and downspouts. Our Gutters page covers that work in more detail.
Help with your insurance claim
We work directly with your insurance claim. We meet the adjuster on the roof and share our photos and line items. Coverage decisions stay with your insurer, and we explain each step so you know where things stand.

Signs your roof took hail damage

  • Granules in the gutters

After a storm, look for piles of coarse, sand-like grit at the downspout outlets. That is shingle surface that the hail knocked loose.

  • Dented vents and flashing

Soft metal records every hit. If the vent caps on your roof are dimpled, the shingles around them took the same strikes.

  • Dark, round spots on shingles

Hail bruises look like random dark circles where the granules are missing. They often feel soft when pressed.

  • Chipped or cracked tile

Broken tile corners in the yard or gutter mean the roof has open gaps. The underlayment beneath now takes the weather on its own.

  • Dings on cars, fences or siding

If hail marked the things at ground level, it hit your roof harder. Your roof faces the storm directly.

  • A ceiling stain after the next rain

A stain means water has already reached the deck. Our Roof Leak Repair page explains how we trace it.

What sets the price of hail repair

The price follows the number of damaged spots and what your roof is made of. We itemize every line, so you can hold our estimate up against your insurance scope and see where they match. We do not quote a figure until we have been on the roof.

How many slopes were hit

Damage on one slope facing the storm costs far less to fix than strikes spread across the whole roof.

Material and matching

Matching tile profiles or discontinued shingle colors can take extra sourcing. Concrete and clay tile also need more careful handling than shingles.

What is underneath

Torn underlayment or soft decking found under the damaged areas adds to the repair.

Roof metal

Each vent cap, flashing piece or gutter run that needs replacing becomes its own line item.

Pitch and height

Steep or two-story roofs need extra safety setup, and that setup adds labor time.

How a hail repair job runs

  1. 1

A phone call and an inspection

On the call, tell us roughly when the hail fell and any clues you've noticed at ground level, such as grit piled at a downspout outlet or a dimpled vent cap. Then we set a time to come out for a free roof inspection at your home.

  2. 2

    Findings and a written estimate

We photograph the test squares and every damaged component. You get a free written estimate with each repair listed as its own line.

  3. 3

    Claim or direct payment

If you file a claim, we meet your adjuster and walk the roof together. If you pay directly, financing is available through Service Finance Company, subject to credit approval.

  4. 4

Repair day with the same crew

The people who inspected your roof do the work. We cover plants and walkways, replace the damaged materials, seal everything, and run a magnetic sweep for nails before we leave.

  5. 5

After photos and a final walk

We show you the finished areas next to the original photos. If the damage called for a new roof, CertainTeed SureStart PLUS 3-Star manufacturer coverage is available.

Hail damage questions

Does hail really damage roofs in Seal Beach?

It doesn't happen often, but winter storms off the ocean sometimes bring small hail. Because it is rare, the damage tends to go unnoticed until a leak shows up months later. Even small stones can bruise aging shingles and crack brittle tile.

Should I file a claim before or after the inspection?

After is usually better. Our photos and findings help you decide whether the damage is worth filing for. We will not push you to file, and if you do, we work directly with your insurance claim.

Can you match my existing shingles or tile?

In most cases we can, by brand, color and profile. On older roofs, a product line is sometimes discontinued. If that's true for your roof, we show you the closest options before any work begins.

What if the damage means I need a whole new roof?

We show you the photos and explain why a repair would not hold. Our Roof Replacement page covers that work. CertainTeed SureStart PLUS 3-Star manufacturer coverage is available on new roofs, and financing through Service Finance Company is available, subject to credit approval.

How long after a storm can hail damage still be found?

Bruises and dents stay visible for a long time. Insurance policies often set time limits on claims, though, so check yours and have the roof looked at soon after the storm.
